Fall Practices 2014

Practices may be adjusted to the group in attendance. All ability levels are encouraged to participate!
Head Coach - Matt TiampoMatt attended Queen's University in Kingston (Ontario, Canada) where he majored in history and ran Varsity Cross Country and Track. During his time at Queen's Matt also served for 2 years as the head coach of the Queen's University Varsity Triathlon Club. Matt's coaching focuses on the long term development of consistent athletes who are focused on executing their workouts and races to plan. Matt is an avid endurance athlete and has been a student and fan of endurance sports throughout his career. He is happy to have been a part of the growth and success of the 2012-2013 MN Triathlon team thus far, and is excited to continue to work with the many committed and talented athletes on this team.
Training and Practice Attendance:Training with the MN Tri Team can be as intense or laid back as you want to make it. We offer a number of coached practices at different times throughout the week so that members can choose convenient practices that fit their schedules. There are no mandatory practices to be a team member, you can come to as many / few as works for your schedule. If you want to join the racing group, you will be expected to attend at least three practices per week (you are not required to compete in races to belong to the team). We have members of all levels from beginner to elite, so you can always find someone about your own ability-level at practice.
Swim Practices: The coaches design swim practices to be challenging for swimmers of all levels and abilities. We write 3-5km practices with the idea that newer/ weaker swimmers will start at their own comfort level and improve their insurance and stroke over the year with coaching and practice. Each practice has multiple pace/ rest times and distance options to suit different swim speeds and abilities. We explain the swim wet before each practice, please show up on the pool deck 5 minutes early.
Bike Practices: Helmets must be worn at all times. When riding with the group, make sure to be aware of other bikers nearby, and other road/ trail users (e.g., cars, pedestrians, bikers). Communicate to avoid accidents and collisions. We generally ride on the road and Minneapolis-St. Paul bikeway system. members generally train on road bikes and triathlon bikes. Bike practices meet between the rec center and Cooke Hall.
Run Practices: There are several runs throughout the week that vary in intensity with most being conversational and one speed run a week. All runs, with the exception of Friday speed, are done in groups that split by ability level. No runner is ever left to run by themselves. All ability levels are encouraged to participate and distance/ speed can be adjusted. Run practices meet outside of the rec center.
