President - Jessica FinlayJessica is a graduate student in the University of Minnesota’s Geography Department. Her primary athletic background is swimming; she has been involved with swim teams as both a competitor and coach for over 15 years. At age 7, her parents put her on a local swim club after failing to pass Maroon (an early Canadian swim level in which you have to swim 25m without stopping) 3 times! Since then, she has spent many hours training in the pool and medaled provincially in both swimming and water polo.
Jessica was drawn to the challenge and exciting dynamics of triathlon, and joined her undergraduate university triathlon team. With three years on the team, she dramatically improved her strength and endurance, learned to “clip in” and “snot rocket,” and had a blast with her teammates. She also served as an executive member, women's team rep, spin trainer, and head swim coach. Jessica loves training and racing with her teammates, and also thoroughly enjoys post-workout festivities! The MN Triathlon team combines the best of everything: fun, fitness, and friendship!
Vice President/Webmaster - Alex RosenbaumAlex is a senior studying Psychology. He swam competitively in high school, and moved to triathlon just last year. Talked into triathlon by his friends in high school, he raced for MN Triathlon over the summer and had a blast. Alex competed this spring in Tempe, AZ at the USAT Collegiate National Championships. Inspired by great mustaches like Mark Spitz and Steve Prefontaine, he hopes his will help him go as fast as he can.
Head Coach - Matt TiampoMatt attended Queen's University in Kingston (Ontario, Canada) where he majored in history and ran Varsity Cross Country and Track. During his time at Queen's Matt also served for 2 years as the head coach of the Queen's University Varsity Triathlon Club. Matt's coaching focuses on the long term development of consistent athletes who are focused on executing their workouts and races to plan. Matt is an avid endurance athlete and has been a student and fan of endurance sports throughout his career. He is happy to have been a part of the growth and success of the 2012-2013 MN Triathlon team thus far, and is excited to continue to work with the many committed and talented athletes on this team.
Treasurer - Mélanie Rabino
Mélanie is a freshman studying chemistry and planning on going to pharmacy school after undergrad. She has been swimming competitively since she was seven years old and decided to try triathlon during high school since she also enjoys running and biking. She quickly grew to love the sport and racing and was therefore very excited to join the University of Minnesota Triathlon team.
This past year she has really loved training with the team, doing some indoor races, and racing at Collegiate Nationals in Arizona. She feels that the triathlon team has provided her with a great opportunity to meet some awesome people and have a lot of fun! Mélanie is very excited to take on a leadership role and see the team grow and develop in the coming years.
Co-Social Coordinator - Brianna Chu
It is unfortunate that the MN Triathlon Team did not fully develop until Brianna's last year in undergrad, but she will be sticking around to take medical school prerequisites. Bri is a former Gopher swimmer, just one of the many strong swimmers on the team. Falling back after being third out of the water at the draft-legal sprint during the 2013 USAT Collegiate Nationals, she fully realized her need to improve her biking skills. Outside of triathlon, Bri is a member of the Nordic Ski Club and has raced the 50k American Birkebeiner. As Co-Social Coordinator, Brianna will be focusing on increasing team visibility and fostering cohesiveness through a variety of fun events.
